We specialise in providing a high level of service for blast freezing and both chiller and freezer storage.
Kyabram Cold Storage (KCS) is an Australian owned company established in 1984 with the purchase of 16 cool rooms from the original Kyabram cannery. The early years of business were primarily servicing local orchards through fruit storage.
During the 1990's and 2000's Kyabram Cold Storage experienced significant growth on the back of the dairy industry and storage of dairy goods predominately being cheese become part of our daily business.
Beginning the journey back in the early 1980’s with the purchase of a small warehouse facility in Merrigum Victoria, Kyabram Cold Storage (KCS) is an Australian owned company. Established as a company in 1984 with the further purchase of 16 cool rooms from the original Kyabram IXL cannery, through the then owners comprising Bill and Elaine Montague, Don Fairless and Ian Hall & Families. The early years of business were primarily servicing local orchards through fruit storage, both conventional and controlled atmosphere both National & International destinations.
During the mid to late 1990's KCS increased their storage capacity with the development of a cool room footprint to service the growing Dairy industry (Bonlac and Murray Goulburn) with the addition of 8 further cool rooms. A further spike in the Dairy industry in early 2000, provided KCS with significant growth and storage of Dairy goods predominately being cheese. This again gave KCS the opportunity for expansion at their Barton Road facility. Being 16 cool rooms
of capacity.
With all great stories there has been hardship and in the early to mid-2010’s KCS through a massive downturn in the Northern Victorian Dairy industry and the expansion of further industrial cold storage footprints throughout metro Melbourne sure significant reductions in both storage and staffing. Although this time was short lived, with the inclusion of Mr Chris Fairless board member and innovation director in 2015.
Chris Fairless engaged through his network, with owners of the newly built dairy Operative Australian Consolidated Milk and in 2018 the business was confirmed as ACM’s 3PL for all warehousing. Chris Fairless continued to build the business through his work in customer engagement and development of a corporate structure which included the recruitment of Darren Gledhill as General Manager. In September 2023 the business was purchased outright by Chris and his family.
Chris as the Managing Director along with Darren and the Operational team, continue to strive to support current and new customers with Total Supply Chain Solutions. This is now a driving force for the resurgence of KCS. Leaders in Temperature Controlled Storage, always aspiring to improve for customers benefit.
Today Kyabram Cold Storage is situated on three sites in Kyabram, Merrigum and Shepparton with 62 cool rooms and a capacity of 50,000 units. KCS continue to build on the employment opportunities for local community members from not only Kyabram. Local communities of Echuca, Girgarre, Rochester, Rushworth and the Mooroopna/ Shepparton areas have been supported with the KCS family now a team of 45 employees.
